Roadtrip to China: 8 rules for work and play

It's funny to read this newsletter today, 'cause I was only recently discuss about the lowdown of the Chinese behaviors with a friend... then this article come out to coincide what we mentioned.

I have to agree, most of what Anne mentioned is true, and to the point, which, on the other hand is bit embarrassing to admit it instead of embrace it.

We all have travel to certain part of the world and meet different cultural, race, and groups. Thus, no one sentence can explain them all, 'cause each individual is different, we don't want to stereotype a fixed group and label them otherwise.

Although it is easier to stereotype, for simpler interaction and recognition, we have to bear in mind that what you learn from text, is always different than reality, until you meet, experiment in person, to fully understand. This is, least what works for me, before making harsh judgments.

K, back to Chinese...

What about Chinese people this days? well, it's one of the largest race in the world, and... spread all over the corner of Earth... trust me, Chineses do know how to survive...

So, can we say all Chinese are the same?? Most likely not... certain traits will be iron in Chinese's mind, no doubt, but behaviors are... mix bags...

With the influence of Modern Western lifestyle, technology since late 1900s, the Chinese society changed a lot from it's old, and, to my believe, to the worst...

The old Eastern philosophy are no longer taking effects, old traditions are fading, human interactions are become scarce, lost its pure form... all ancient textbook teachings are coming as sarcastic as it can be. Self orientated, greed, lack of ... many things...

In a sense, can't blame them, population determines behaviors, in a mass populate zone, standing out is a hardship...

What my friend and I chat about is the rudeness among many Chinese, Chinese-Americans these days. Taking things for granted and without mercy for others.

Our parents taught us to be polite and humble whenever possible, yet, it is difficult to spread this seed to others.

We have encountered many rude situations before together and separately, we just felt that, the ethical value of the entire Chinese society is on the downward shift... is, care, think more of others a difficult thing to perform??

Throughout my China trips in recently years, people often like to ask me what U.S. is like? 'cause they are eager to learn about this heaven, so as many coined; I often told them that, from my personal experience, I can only say that, things we learned from ancient textbook, the moral, ethical values, are more likely to appear in action in the land of U.S., than Asia.

It is a custom to help others when they seem to need helps, this is not a huge effort, but I see more of this in U.S. than Asia.

Any car that are having trouble on U.S. freeways, or roads, you can bet, there must have least two cars pull aside to help, and often are not from Asians, a sad reality. I'm not sure if this is taught through preschool or not, since I only started juror high here...

When walk around town or shop around, often time I greet and be greeted by warm smiles, again, not from Asian...

I tried sometimes with Asians, oftentimes they just look me as I'm a weirdo, not to mention saying anything back...

Thus I joke with my mom that: is Asian never taught how to smile or just enforce the law of never talk to strangers?? or simply they don't smile good??

Not to mock or anything, but if you ever shop at Asian supermarket or community in the future, look around and you will find a lot of serious people around you that's group by group, a bunch of small group and never interact with others... it's a no-no among them... thus don't expect any warm reply in any form... 'cause, you won't get them...

Dude, what's wrong with Asian-Americans?? I thought the point of immigration is to move from unwanted homeland to a better lifestyle, correct?? If so, why not adopt to the living land's bests? What I see is that, immigrants bring all sorts of garbages to the new land and destruct the living standards... just.. think L.A....

Maybe, 小國寡民、老死不相往來、is the goal among many Asian's mind... yet, have they fully understand the entire passage?? It's an ideal utopia where no chaos, no violence, and everyone can live peacefully without struggles... not to tell you not to interact with others... dude... read the whole passage and understand them to the heart... gee...

Come on people, have a heart for others, and not just saying it, 'show' it in your everyday actions. Compassion for others is not hard to do, all it needs is little effort by you, other people will feel the sunny warm side, and so do you.

Take a back step sometimes, it's not difficult... always rushing and compete isn't healthy, don't be stern, relax a bit, your body will thank you...

Asians, throughout the world, we need to relearn the ancient texts, our national/racial treasures are all in there, waiting for us, for quite long time... until each and everyone of us can learn them well, our mother culture can, finally, be on the rise again... let us work on it, it's more precious than our individual life...

Each individual is different and unique, thus the above sayings are base on stereotype viewpoint, to simplify grouping... course I know you're better than that, so, keep working on it, you will exceed the stereotype cap, I, salute you~

eh... no one will sue me, right? =p
