iPhone Crazy...
On the way to drop off mails to postal office I saw... saw lines of people lining up to the corner of Santa Cruz/Main St. of Los Gatos... must to be the iPhone line, which I thought should be less in town of Los Gatos... guess wrong then...
was tried to take picture of it, but didn't have the time to grab the phone and cars are moving... oh well, people knew about the phenomenon anyway... no need to add more to it.
then cruising some model homes and enjoy a lunch at the clubhouse Eagle Ridge... then, more showcases... which was fun.
K, back to iPhone...
I like Jobs since early '90s, the Steve Jobs, did read stories about him and video documentaries of him and Gates. The rivalry effect that early tech geeks like to contrast to which camp are you...
Even though I like Jobs more, I never really own an Apple product, nor familiar with it, besides some Jr. High's Basic programing... moving turtles around as an accomplishment...
For the reason, don't like PowerPC chip inside... slow and limited, even the graphic makeup was good compare to PC... yet, price point and flexibility are just not aim to it...
More importantly... Jobs was out of Apple... kicked out... A company kicks out its founding core will not make any reasonable sense, especially a crazy visionary like Jobs...
He sure is crazy, but often he's right at the point... he live for the goal, 'to change the world', not purely making profits... which the early Gates' career is about...
Jobs is an idealist, early teens in Eastern influence of Yoga, meditation, Zen, etc., which sooth his unstable temper a bit, yet not completely ... I guess his yelling decibel is on the high part... might be his reason to be the ouster...
Anyhow, his return to Apple was dramatic and at the time, I was waiting, waiting for the next big thing to come... well, cute iMac G3 did brought tensions... yet, too toy like... still not convince to buy one, especially for the price point...
Then iPod came, a dress up easy to use MP3 player, much like the early PalmPilot, start to steal the market... well, didn't get the first few version... reason... too ugly...
Not till the cute little iPod shuffle that grab my true interest back in '05, plus a good gift item for relative/friends back in Taiwan... thus start the iPod shopping spree....
Noticed, people crazy about iPod at the time... especially in Asia, where considered expensive and show of 'class'... well... the marketing of Apple done a well job... to brainwash the world...
Not till the color began to fuse with iPod that I fall into the red iPod nano 8gb, reason, you can only get that in U.S. through Apple store only, w/ free engraving... haha... Though Amazon sells cheaper and w/o tax... still you don't see red iPod often...
To this day, I still like nano vs. regular iPod, cause it's so easy to carry when traveling, and not worry about the weight and where to put it... plus, a nice touch of uniqueness...
So, what about Mac? well, I waited and waited, waiting for Jobs' next breakthrough innovation, the ground up innovation... Oui~ the OSX, basically a dress up UNIX... k, more wait then... finally, the shift to Intel!! viola~~ I knew my long wait can be shorten in year or so... since for things like that, a year or two is needed for the product to mature and be stable...
Finally, the 24' iMac w/ Penryn chipset, oui~~ grab it off Amazon this May, love it, the wait is worth it... totally...
So, what about iPhone???
I do have to applaud Jobs and his Apple team to put so much attention to the product that they never done before and grab near every corner's attention on it, since last year. They sure know how to attract people...
Tell me, any cellphone maker you know can generate this much hype about 'a' product?? Cell business is around for nearly 20+ years since late '80s....
Motorola, Nokia, SonyEricsson, to new noble Samsung, LG, none of them can put the media to focus on whatever product they plan to roll out like Apple did, twice... not even the king of smartphone RIM/Blackberry...
So, what's the secret?? it ought to be learn as the marketing case study, a really important one to be learn and fully understand, cause this is, crazy to the extreme normal way...
Wii, well, who care about you, iPhone will eventually take over the gaming world, and if, just if Apple decide to get into the console game world... bye bye Nintendo, Sony Playstation, or the lacking power Xbox...
All in all, cause with Jobs' spiritual power in it, Apple is the brand that deeply root into many's mind... for, sleek design, intuitive 'normal' people usability, and... sense of 'pride'...
The crucial factor is, 'pride', Jobs has the way to torment people's mind to believe the 'item' on his/her hand is superior than others, not by inch, 'a lot' superior....
well... guess we're weak minded... believe in whatever Apple feed us... never once in any industry has the ad that brutal in 'Mac vs PC' commercials... to be honest, it's funny and to my opinion... I like the PC guy much more due to his flexibility...
Apple Computer Inc. became just Apple Inc. couple years ago... which is just a hint that, the company is all around player now... it will, expand to every possible product it can think of and wash out your existing lifestyle... just wait...
iSunglasses, iWear, iPen, iShoe, iCar, iFuel, iHouse, iTeam, iRule, ixxxxxxxxxxxxx.... yeah, that's about it... you're doomed...
Jobs, can we have an iJobs?? I think it would be nice to have you around for a while... on our side...
Well, Gates is out, maybe your days are numbered, but we believe that, the 'i' factor will continue for quite some time...
Back w/ the iPhone, so... what about it?? well... honestly, a small computer device to carry around is cool, usability?? I doubt it... With CA's new cellphone rule kicks in since 7/1... it's a funny contrast for the mighty gadget to rule our life...
iPhone clones are coming, Samsung, LG, RIM... well... let the new era of cell war begin, and see who wins... my bet... still Apple... cause it's all rooted in our mind... just like... iPod...
My friends, if you ever wish to be success, please think the package through, not just one item/product... cause in the future wars, it's never going to get anywhere... it's the entire package deal from now on....
When will be my time to trap in iPhone? well... don't like the Cingular/AT&T much... but.. if I get bored... winter sounds good... no need of summer heats...
