GM blues
GM blues
General Motor, once a mighty titan of them all, falling, sliding, taking the market with it...
GM, the mighty symbol of U.S.A., #1 car maker for, well, a long time until last year... What's wrong pal?? Can't keep up with the technology? the hit trend? or simply just unlucky???
To be honest, GM's product are better than ever before, to a sense, already catch up on par with the imports from Germany or Japan while taking over the crown in China's market share...
So, what went wrong???
The 'sayings', 'pressure', and 'union'... from my view are what's driving this company down.
To these day, fuel saving is a slogan, a marketing tool, yet, the usefulness to everyday people maybe is effective... yet again, what did you trade in for the mpg??
Hybrid is hip, yet not very utility to the American lifestyle... should the trend move back to small car sector like in the '70s oil crisis? Yes, it will... but this time around, some people will still get the gas guzzler that fits the lifestyle.
U.S. cars, in the current form/trend, are at its peak in term of technology and quality, and service. Yet, the major market trend still says otherwise... a peer pressure that sunk the might big threes down day by day...
Is Toyota better? not really... by segments, Toyota are not much better than Big Threes.. but perceptional images are... that's Japan's winning point, which they stride to build since the day they step into this market.
P.R. is crucial, no doubt, in this modern wars, each and every success is trace back to its P.R powerhouse, network, and image... the one whom controls it all, wins.
Infiniti/Nissan is the only Japanese maker that we actually own and like, even though it still has the hot pick G35 sets, we missed the Q45, and was not interested in the brand any longer for some reason... got tired of it I guess...
Rest of the konbanwa groups, Mazda that does draw some interests in its product line... Honda/Acura, neh... Toyota group, yeah right... in million years a no-no...
Well, you can tell... we are in the sport mode, not comfort/sluggish driving mode...
So why are Americans buy Toyota these days... well, you can tell by it's change of driving styles...
Camry, my number one hated vehicle on the road... why? regardless of whom driving it... it's slow, block the lane, but, 'always running the yellow/red lights'... so... why drive slow to discomfort others??
Unfortunately, it's consider the number one selling sedan in U.S.... tells about the driving population...
Now it's the Prius... the mighty hybrid that has the same Camry trait, from the same family tree I suppose... they think they save the Earth and are green... well... yeah... by the speed they driven around town, it does correspond the tree's growth rate.... not sure they save gas or not, but under 30mph, it's electrical power only... so... under 30mph would be ideal...
Does GM really gets that bad?? No, I don't think so.
Said earlier, GM's Buick is the #1 car in China, the #2 car market besides U.S., current Chinese people are crazy about Buick. For a reason, they hated Japanese related items, thus Toyota, Honda, Mazda are having a harder market penetration than other markets. It's the national tag with Japan in many Chinese's mind.... quite interesting if you study business strategies, that history actually taking effect...
In the last few years, our car habit shifting more toward U.S. car maker than ever, maybe it's the effect of our long staying in the land or actually 'immigrated'... for whatever reason, the lifestyle just changed and the tastes as well...
So to say, experiences the graduate change in technology and design, quality of U.S. cars, we think, its actually on the peak of its innovation on par with European cars... the much more improve rate than Japanese designs in years... Trust me, Japanese cars are on its fall in term of quality and designs... will show up in couple years...
However, we like the fall of GM and rest of the big three, thus we can afford the car and take advantages while they are down... It's true and best way to support them... truth is, U.S. population will still need big trucks, van, suv... it's a necessity for many things to on track... think of a service vehicle, gardener on Prius.... eh... carry what?? that tiny little car can't carry even a third of the stuffs... not to mention 'towing'... tow what? a bike?
Face it, gas is on the rise, thanks to all the future player/agents, yet the fundamental of citizen's life will, still be the same, what more accommodation you want from us? how much 'shrinking' you expect??
Let GM blue, because only it blues, it can think a new ear for itself and the American society, this, is, after all, a very good thing. I await for the day it break out the shell and let the phoenix sings.
