Etiquette in public place.
Etiquette in public place.
---
Etiquette, is an interesting thing.. varies from people to people..
Was at Costco NE San Jose this morning (Automation Pkwy), before entering the warehouse, I had a 10 min. argument w/ an Asian woman at the parking lot.
As we, my mom and I walk toward the warehouse, a shopping cart slowing rolling and stopped in front of us, intend to get into the cart storage zone (or whatever that called).
Basically, the woman, who most likely failed her physics course, miss calculated her momentum/velocity from her parking spot across the parking lot, thus, the cart, totally stopped in the middle of the driveway, which is about few feet in front of us.
"Excuse me", I called the woman, as she turned away and ready to get in her car. The woman heard me, just turn her head, saw it, then turned away, as if nothing happened.
I told my mom to not push the cart into the storage zone, but my mom did anyway.
I then walked toward the woman, asked her if she made sure the cart fully get into the storage zone, so it won't cause safety concerns to other vehicle or people.
Her loud reply was:
"None of your business, I already better than others!!"
"Do you want to call police!! Call then!!"
"Are you going to hit me!!"
"Why do you care!!"
Thus, started my nearly ten minute loud argument w/ her at the parking lot...
In the end, I asked her, did she or did she not see my mom pushed her cart into the storage zone for her? She then stopped and quickly got into the car, and escape...
I told my mom, because she "helped', so there's no evidence left, that's why this Asian woman was very "reasonable" at first, and felt no wrongness in her action, so she was "very loud" until the end...

"I'm better than others", as her argument, yet, the "better than others" may cause safety concerns to others.
It's like "I'm paying 20% of the taxes to IRS, so I'm better than those who don't pay taxes at all, I'm better!"
So, those paid 100% of taxes are dumb?? It's not like we like to pay taxes, but it's a duty to be a responsible citizen in this country..
Social etiquette, are never fully taught at school, nor has any standard, yet, in any public places, it's not what we 'feel like', it's the wellbeing of everyone, especially safety. All she need to do is to make sure her shopping cart get into the storage zone, if not, walk toward it and push again. Simple and easy. Yet, her attitude is: I pushed, it's not my fault it didn't get in, at least I didn't left it randomly like other people did.
In the middle of the parking lot, is more dangerous than left random at parking spot... I suppose she can't see the differences.
I'm Asian, but I do not tolerate those whose behavior are so, well, Asian.... We are not in Asia, which is the sole reason people come to this country, because we want to have a better lifestyle, if so, start to think like American and behave like one, all it take, is little step and, think for others as often as you can.
I notice this woman is likely Vietnamese heritage, most of the Vietnamese American are refuge or related, thus came to this country for a better life, well, better than Vietnam, does not mean you're American. Likewise, better than China is not equal to "I'm American."
Social behavior and etiquette in public places is a growing concerns, clash between cultures is a norm if no one willing to adopt or to make a change. Mentality of old thinking, is difficult to alter, yet, it's not impossible, only, if you place yourself in other or public's concern, then you'll know what to do.
Simple as that.
